Subject: CSF Xanthochromia for investigation of Subarachnoid Haemorrhage

Dear All,

I am especially keen to hear from labs in Australasia regarding the following:

1.       Whether their lab offers CSF Xanthochromia testing?

2.       What is the method used for CSF Xanthochromia testing in their lab (e.g. the revised UK guideline for analysis of CSF by spectrophotometry (Cruickshank A, Auld A, Beetham R et al. Ann Clin Biochem 2008;45:238-44), or automated bilirubin analysis, or some other method)

3.       If automated bilirubin analysis is used – which analyser is it done on? how was the reference cut-off determined? Are ‘positives’ confirmed by the UK guideline using spectrophotometry?

Thanks in advance for everyone’s replies. I would be happy to compile the responses I receive.

Kind regards,

Joyce
