Yes we have here at Heartlands, in fact we've just launched the latest version of our web site here at www.heftpathology.com<http://www.heftpathology.com> with a new test database and a "link bucket" at https://pinboard.in/u:duty_biochemist which links curated articles and publications to the tests in our test database

I've used a number of companies in the past. Currently I'm hosting with fasthosts.co.uk<http://fasthosts.co.uk> and use the business standard package (I have considered a virtual server as well for some proposed web apps)

If you are interested in what I use its the following

Joomla 1.7 as a content management system (joomla.org<http://joomla.org>) with the zoo content application builder component (http://www.yootheme.com/zoo/) to provide some added flexibility in content management.

I'm using a vimeo account to host training videos/screen casts and videos for our blogging platform (http://vimeo.com/channels/heftpathology#34073773) to save some bandwidth on the main site but also the tools for uploading video etc are great.

In addition we have started using wordpress to provide a flexible blogging capability (http://wordpress.org/) we've used for a number of years now to manage of EQA/IQC performance in the department but are also starting to use it as a formal communication tool (http://blog.heftpathology.com/ is our public facing blog)

Minium specification for all this is a host that can run php applications and a mysql database. Its all very cheap approx 100 per year (cf to new hosting at 3K per year!)

Cheers
Craig

I’d be very grateful to hear the experiences of those who have setup externally hosted departmental websites. We’re looking at going down this route due to limitations with our main Trust site.

Can anybody recommend a good web hosting service for this sort of project?

Many thanks in advance
Stuart
