Doctoral Completion Rates – Best Practice and Emerging Trends

Please note that the deadline for submitting contributions to the ‘Doctoral Completion Rates – Best Practice and Emerging Trends’ workshop is tomorrow (9^th December).  Please see below for details.

That the 2012 increase in undergraduate fees will affect recruitment to postgraduate research programmes is now generally accepted. Most undergraduates will be leaving their Bachelors’ programme with high levels of debt and will therefore be more cautious about enrolling for postgraduate research courses. Potential doctoral applicants will wish to have access to a range of institutional performance indicators to inform their choice. Therefore postgraduate completion rates will quickly become key pieces of information in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

This UKCGE workshop will provide an opportunity in the first plenary session to hear from a representative of HEFCE on current funding council thinking regarding the compilation and dissemination of doctoral completion rates. In the second plenary session Professor Andrew Slade, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise at Leeds Metropolitan University, will talk about strategies for improving doctoral completion rates.

As well as plenary presentations we want the conference to provide a platform for short presentations of successful institutional strategies in enhancing doctoral completion rates.
