Hello ListWhat most organisations are trying to do is cover their requirements under the Display Screen Equipment Regs , part of the "six pack"Essentially you have to have a system in place to provided eyesight tests by a doctor or optometrist, and to provide a basis pair of spectacles for intermediate distance correction if required. This is thought to be likely in about 10% of the over 40's.If you have such a system in place, eg voucher system to cover the above , and you inform your employees of this, you have no obligation to allow them to have eyetests or purchase specs elsewhere. If they chose to do so, it is at their own cost...If the system involves a nurse or technician doing a vision screen, then even if they come out OK , if they request a doctor or optician eyetest, it should be provided. If in doubt refer to the DSE Regs CheersDianePS I worked in one company that tested vision on office workers pre- employment. If they need specs they were told to go and get them before they became employees. Not sure how this would fit in with current legislation!
