Gweinidog yn lansio cyllid ar gyfer amgueddfeydd, archifau a llyfrgelloedd
Cyhoeddodd Huw Lewis, y Gweinidog Tai, Adfywio a Threftadaeth, y cylch diweddaraf o gynlluniau grant ar gyfer amgueddfeydd, archifau a llyfrgelloedd Cymru. Mae’r Gweinidog yn gwahodd ceisiadau ar gyfer cylch 2012-13 ar gyfer Arloesi a Datblygu, y cynllun ar gyfer amgueddfeydd, archifau a llyfrgelloedd. Nod y cynllun yw datblygu’r cyfoeth o gasgliadau amrywiol sydd i’w cael mewn amgueddfeydd, archifau a llyfrgelloedd, yn ogystal â hyrwyddo mynediad iddynt, ac annog pobl i’w defnyddio.

Ail-lansio’r cynllun Cyfoeth Cymru Gyfan
Bwriedir ehangu cynllun blaenllaw Llywodraeth Cymru sy’n galluogi amgueddfeydd ac orielau rhanbarthol i fenthyca eitemau o gasgliadau Amgueddfeydd ac Orielau Cenedlaethol Cymru. Dyna a gyhoeddodd y Gweinidog Treftadaeth, Huw Lewis. Yn ail-lansiad y cynllun Cyfoeth Cymru Gyfan yng Nghastell Cyfarthfa, Merthyr Tudful, cyhoeddodd y Gweinidog ei fod wedi sicrhau cefnogaeth ariannol Cronfa Treftadaeth y Loteri i ehangu’r cynllun yn 2012/13. Caiff y cynllun ei estyn i gynnwys llyfrgelloedd ac archifdai hefyd, fel eu bod hwythau yn cael yr hawl i fenthyca eitemau o gasgliadau Amgueddfeydd ac Orielau Cenedlaethol Cymru a sefydliadau cenedlaethol eraill y DU.

Adolygiad Cyfoeth Cymru Gyfan
Sefydlwyd Cyfoeth Cymru Gyfan yn 2002 i gefnogi benthyg casgliadau o amgueddfeydd cenedlaethol i amgueddfeydd lleol ar draws Cymru. Mae CyMAL wedi rheoli’r cynllun ers 2004. Ers hynny, mae 13 amgueddfeydd wedi cymryd rhan yn y cynllun. Mae pob un o'r amgueddfeydd wedi derbyn arian sydd wedi eu galluogi i fenthyca eitemau sy'n berthnasol i'w ardal o amgueddfeydd cenedlaethol. Fel rhan o'r strategaeth amgueddfeydd cenedlaethol, a gyhoeddwyd yn 2010, mae CyMAL wedi gwneud adolygiad o'r cynllun yn 2010/11. Mae'r adolygiad wedi edrych ar ganlyniadau'r cynllun hyd yn hyn, a sut y gellid ei ymestyn.

Prosiectau treftadaeth Cymru yn elwa ar gyllid gwerth miliynau
Cyhoeddodd Huw Lewis, y Gweinidog Tai, Adfywio a Threftadaeth, y bydd naw prosiect treftadaeth ar draws Cymru yn elwa ar gyllid o £2.4 miliwn. Mae'r cyllid yn dod o Brosiect Twristiaeth Treftadaeth £19 miliwn Llywodraeth Cymru sy'n cael ei gefnogi gan £8.5 miliwn o gyllid Ewropeaidd. Nod y prosiect yw sicrhau'r gwerth gorau posibl i dreftadaeth drwy gynyddu nifer, hyd a gwerth yr ymweliadau â Chymru, gan gysylltu themâu treftadaeth Cymru yn genedlaethol, yn rhanbarthol ac yn lleol. Bydd y prosiect hefyd yn sicrhau ei bod hi'n haws manteisio ar dreftadaeth ysblennydd Cymru ac yn gwella'r profiad o ymweld â hi - er budd trigolion Cymru ac ymwelwyr â'r wlad.

Acceptance in Lieu increased to £30m
Chancellor George Osborne’s autumn statement will see an increase from £20m to £30m in the limit on tax offset by donations under the Acceptance in Lieu scheme. Paragraph 2.35 of the statement states: “At Budget 2011, the government announced that it would consult on proposals to encourage donations of pre-eminent works of art or historical objects to the nation in return for a tax reduction.”

Following consultation, the government will legislate to enable individuals to receive a reduction in their income tax or capital gains tax liabilities, and companies to receive a reduction in their corporation tax liabilities, in return for donating pre-eminent objects under this new scheme. Total tax reductions under this scheme, and taxes offset under the existing inheritance tax Acceptance in Lieu scheme, will be subject to an increased annual limit of £30m a year overall.

Voices of museums must be heard at EU Commission
At the annual meeting of the Network of European Museum Organisations (NEMO) in Athens last month, attendees heard how efforts are being made to raise the profile of museums ahead of the launch of the next EU culture programme in 2013. Attendees at the meeting discussed the upcoming Culture 2013 programme with Illona Kish, a spokeswoman from culture lobbying group Culture Action Europe. Kish said that the EU Commission’s department for culture will shortly be issuing proposals for the seven-year, multi-million euro programme, which awards grants across Europe for partnerships and projects in the arts, media and cultural sectors.

Fill in our orphan works survey for the chance to win a Kindle
This is your opportunity to make your voice heard at Westminster and Brussels. In 2009 the Strategic Content Alliance (SCA) and the Collections Trust (CT) published one of the few empirical pieces of evidence - In From the Cold - on the scale and impact of orphan works (works for which the rights holders are unknown or cannot be traced) on galleries, libraries, archives and libraries specifically and other organisations more broadly. Orphan works represent a significant barrier to education, research and innovation. We need your help in building the evidence base to support you to deliver digital content more efficiently and effectively, so we are asking you to complete this short survey: http://1686881.polldaddy.com/s/orphan-works-survey.

AHRC project looks at how social media is changing the way users engage with cultural collections
How are new online media environments changing the way users engage with, and learn from, the collections of cultural institutions? This question underpins a new research project being undertaken as part of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Beyond Text research programme. 'Taking forward a participative 21st Century Inventory' is a project which builds on the research being undertaken by Beyond Text Collaborative Doctoral Award student Michela Clari. Entitled 'In the hands of the user’, Michela’s work looks at changing patterns of participation and learning through the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) digital collections.

Digitisation and the Environment
Digitisation is defined as the conversion of analogue information into digital information.  Or, more specifically, the representation of an arts, cultural heritage or educational object, image, event or document in digital form, with the express purpose of providing a resource that can be re-used in learning, teaching and research. The digitisation of the world's cultural heritage and other educational resources has grown considerably in the recent past. Significant sums of public money have been invested in digitisation, and museums, galleries, archives and libraries have placed high priority in providing access to their collections and holdings in the formats expected by today’s increasingly digitally-connected learners, teachers and researchers.

QRator
QRator is a collaborative project between the UCL Centre for Digital Humanities (UCLDH), UCL Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA), and UCL Museums and Collections,  to develop new kinds of content, co-curated by the public, museum curators, and academic researchers, to enhance museum interpretation, community engagement and establish new connections to museum exhibit content.

QRator enables members of the public to type in their thoughts and interpretation of museum objects and click ‘send’. Their interpretation become part of the objects history and ultimately the display itself via the interactive label system to allow the display of comments and information directly next to the artefacts.

Schools need to learn to take full advantage of museums
The collections and expertise of our world-class museum sector should be at the heart of educational experience, not side-lined. Museum worksheets have a lot to answer for. "Can you spot the cat on the far wall? How many places are set at the table?" When I was a child worksheets in museums were relatively new, a valiant effort to reach out to younger visitors. Trouble is, they turned visits into school-like, formal experiences - art and historic collections viewed through filters of form-filling. Those worksheets became synonymous with museum education for many now holding purse-strings and making policy.

Abergavenny exhibition portrays real British Resistance
The Welsh premiere of Resistance, set in an alternative 1944 where the D-Day landings failed, will be staged later in the town where it was filmed. At the same time, the Monmouthshire market town's museum is hosting a British Resistance in Wales exhibition. It has shone the spotlight on the real life GHQ Auxiliary Units and the men who were trained to be Britain's last line of defence. Their story is now being told as part of an exhibition at Abergavenny Museum, with memorabilia from the film also forming part of the displays.
