medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Very interesting, Jim -- thanks for this!

My limited research on hermits tends to show that many of them lived in close contact with other hermits and also with the people of the nearest towns and villages. The lone wild hermit is not so frequent as we might expect, it seems to me.

And also I am intrigued by the OESA Augustinian Hermits and by the Camaldolese -- in different ways, they saw themselves to be hermits living in community. If anyone knows of other such eremitical communities -- in mode of living or in artistic/literary groups -- I would be interested to know of them.
