italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Since its introduction almost a decade ago, Diario della studentessa Jean has become a staple classroom supplemental reading tool for thousands of advanced beginner and intermediate-level students studying the Italian language in high schools, universities and independently. It’s  3rd edition with several new stories is now available. The book’s collection includes 26 easily readable short stories that range from memories of childhood events to dialogues about Italian language classes and stories of everyday life.

The 3rd Edition, edited by Concetta Perna, contains footnoted vocabulary throughout with explanations in English. Ms. Perna has been teaching Italian language and culture for many years at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. She is also the editor of Edizioni Farinelli’s award-winning literary text Non soltanto un baule: storie di emigranti italiani.

Lynne Forte, an Italian teacher at Nonnewaug High School, Woodbury, CT, says of this text: “It’s wonderful! The students are enjoying it and without a doubt, it’s the stories about animals or personified objects that are the hits.” Marcello Spinella, an Italian language student adds, “This book should be required reading for anyone in the early levels of Italian instruction. Unfortunately, there’s not much for beginning level Italian students to read. Diario della studentessa Jean is a satisfying reading experience that enables students to quickly realize that they can read a short book in Italian.”
