Dear Helen

In Plymouth the Record Office retains the details of the old parish boundaries, although admittedly they are in paper form at present. They have marked them on to photocopied OS maps, and annotated them with the name of the parish and the date at which they were created (where known). I have a set for reference, but they keep them to assist people with research. The earliest boundary marked for Plymouth dates back to the early 16th century (St Andrew's in the city centre).

I have not yet digitised them but it would be a relatively straightforward, although time consuming, job to do.

Regards,
Rachel

Subject: Old parish boundary records..?

Hello,

Don't know if we're talked about this before (probably!) but does anyone know anywhere that has old parish boundary data, preferably in GIS form?

The beginning of this was, following the recent invention of new parishes, discovering that the IT people only keep the most recent boundaries (something to do with our agreement with the OS), but it would actually be useful to know if you can get even older data…

Thanks,

Helen Wells
