Third Annual Literatures and Linguistics Undergraduate Colloquium (LLUC) at Gordon College, Wenham, MA

Keynote Speaker: Richard F. Thomas, the George Martin Lane Professor of Classics, Harvard University

The Department of English Language and Literature and the Department of Languages and Linguistics at Gordon College invite paper submissions for their third annual Literatures and Linguistics Undergraduate Colloquium (LLUC).  Undergraduate students from all colleges and universities are encouraged to submit 8-10 page papers in English dealing with any linguistic or literary topic. Please provide a 100-200 word summary (abstract) of your essay in addition to your completed paper. Presentations should not exceed 20 minutes. The submission deadline is February 1, 2012.

This year’s Literatures and Linguistics Undergraduate Colloquium at Gordon College will feature a keynote address by Richard F. Thomas, the George Martin Lane Professor of Classics at Harvard University. Dr. Thomas’ teaching and research interests are focused on Hellenistic Greek and Roman literature, intertextuality, translation and translation theory, the reception of classical literature in all periods, and the works of Bob Dylan. Recent books include Virgil and the Augustan Reception (Cambridge 2001), and two co-edited volumes, Classics and the Uses of Reception (Blackwell 2006) and Bob Dylan’s Performance Artistry (Oral Tradition 22.1 (2007)), and a commentary on Horace, Odes 4 and Carmen Saeculare (2011). He is currently working as co-editor on a three-volume Virgil Encyclopedia.

Gordon College is located on Boston’s historic North Shore, just 25 miles north of Boston.
