To everyone with interests in high-temperature metamorphism and crustal evolution:

GRANULITES AND GRANULITES 2013, HYDERABAD, INDIA

“Granulites and Granulites” is a meeting held every three to four years to bring together researchers interested in all aspects of high-temperature metamorphism and the evolution of the lower continental crust.  After conferences in Brazil (2006) and the Czech Republic (2009), the next meeting will be held in Hyderabad, India, on 16-20 January 2013. This meeting will combine three and a half days of technical sessions with pre- and post-conference fieldtrips to classic exposures of high-temperature rocks in the Eastern Ghats and the Southern Granulite Terrain. We are also planning a “Thermocalc Workshop”  at the Indian Institute of Technology - Kharagpur immediately before the pre-conference field trip. Conference themes will address the “what”, “where”, when “and “why” of granulite metamorphism:
  • Mineral stability, deformation, fluid and melt in granulites;
  • Regional Geology and tectonic histories of granulite terranes;
  • Timing and rates of granulite-facies metamorphism;
  • Geodynamic drivers of high-temperature metamorphism.
We expect to schedule 45-50 talks in Hyderabad, including six keynote presentations that will address the current state of play in a number of key fields of research, together with complementary poster sessions. The meeting will also feature a special session to recognise the immense contribution made to the field of high-grade metamorphism and partial melting by Professor Mike Brown over more than 40 years of research and leadership.  This session will comprise 14 invited speakers, selected in consultation with Mike, and should provide an exceptional overview of recent developments and progress in the study and interpretation of high-grade metamorphic rocks.
