Conference: Access Denied
- Irregular immigrants and persons with weak immigration status are
often excluded from the formal social security arrangements in their
countries of work and residence. This raises a growing number of
legal, practical and political issues. This conference seeks to
analyse these issues and bring together academics, policy advisers,
practitioners, international organisations, NGO's and
representatives of migrant interest groups to explore alternative
approaches to social protection and migration.
Conference goals
- To present the research findings of the Cross-border Welfare
research group.
- To initiate further research on alternative approaches to social
protection and migration.
Invited key-note speakers
- Dr. Ryszard Cholewinski, Migration Policy Specialist at
the International Labour Organisation (ILO)
- Dr. Kay Hailbronner, Professor of Law at the University of
Konstanz
- Dr. Loïc Wacquant, Researcher, Centre de sociologie
européenne et de science politique, Paris / Professor of Sociology
at the University of California, Berkeley
Papers can be submitted for parallel
workshop sessions
- Abstract deadline: 1 November 2011.

Post-conference working session
Following the closing plenary on Wednesday March 14 there will be
a post-conference afternoon working session for participants who have
committed to the proposal for follow-up research.
Conference publication
Participants will receive a conference publication including the
research findings of the Cross-border welfare group, a selection of
the conference papers and an annotated bibliography.
