Dear Cath,
It will be great, as OH can never work alone and I agree that OT and so on do great jobs but as Trevor said so does OHP, counsellor. As the GPs don't look at the individual and think of Functional capacity assessment. Whereas OH does and in many cases Oh helps to shorten the sickness absence by asking the gp to review the potential of returning to work in a different capacity.

I do strongly believe that their skill and tools in assessment can be of great value to OHAs. I think we need to be clear about the role we play as an individual body and as part of a multidisciplinary team

I do hold OTs in very high esteem in the rehabilitation of ill people back to work, but so do I all those OH Physicians, Physiotherapists, Clinical Counselors, OHPs, Psychotherapists etc, as represented on the Council for Work & Health. Would this not have been a very good opportunity for the council to provide an ‘authoritative and representative single voice’ on health and wellbeing issue of this magnitude?

Perhaps we (OHprofessionals) should beat them to the post as we already do all of this and could provide a ready made service for local Doctors, having specilaised knowledge of the buisnesses and industry already in thier areas. Perhaps we may already have good working relationships with the locall medical professionals. What better than to develop locally based teams to bridge the gap between GPs, specilaists and the local employers. This gap has needed filling for eons, high time we did something about it.
