APOLOGIES FOR CROSS-POSTING _In Your Own Words- Better practice in commissioning and using interpreting and translation services in health and social care_ A free event from the Department of Health Strategic Partners Date: Friday 18th November, 10am to 4.30pm (Registration from 9.15am) Venue: NCVO, London Dr Paramjit Gill will be speaking about issues in accessing healthcare, emphasising the need for interpreting and translation services to combat health inequalities, particularly amongst the migrant communities. He will draw upon his professional experience as both a GP in a diverse inner city practice and in his role as the author of several papers on health inequalities and access to health services. He is the Royal College of General Practitioners Clinical Champion for Social Inclusion. Over the years, Interpreting and Translation Services (ITS) have provided an invaluable support to practitioners and have provided a lifeline to communities where language is a barrier to access and equality in health and social care. This event will discuss several themes and questions that include: . How best to ensure quality assurance for ITS services in Health and Social Care? . What is the need? . What additional skills are needed for specialist clinical services? . What will happen if nothing changes? . How to improve commissioning of ITS services? . Are they cost effective? . How do they improve the patient experience? . How can we achieve equality of care for communities in need in rural and urban England?
