My sincere apologies--don't you just love automated email programs?

The site's background:

-The focus is indeed the Welsh smelting industry, firstly because there was
a lack of good quality publicly-circulating information about it and its
connections with mining and manufacturing.

-Secondly, the project itself was also focused on raising awareness of the
important history of the copperworks sites in the Lower Swansea Valley and
has succeeded in feeding into an important heritage-led regeneration
project for the area and so it was important for the information produced
for the exhibition and website to reflect this.

-There is in fact some really interesting information on the Welsh copper
mining context, particularly that of Anglesey. You can find this
information and images and downloadable resources in several of the
exhibition guides, from information on Thomas Williams's monopoly across
the industry to the growth of Amlwch and a fascinating Swansea ticketing
document which lists a number of Welsh mines providing ore for the smelting
market (see Business and prices). See also the Deep History section.

-There are two other projects which will (hopefully) produce material
specifically focused on Welsh metal mining in the near future, one will be
familiar, the development of Parys Mountain into a first class visitor
attraction overseen by Amlwch Industrial Heritage Trust, and the other is
the Metal Links project, which is being overseen by the Irish Geological
Survey and RCAHMW and focus on the Welsh/Irish shared experience of mining
heritage.

The site was developed over a relatively short space of time and there was
certainly no ignorant or deliberate reason for omitting specific content on
copper mining in Wales during the industrial period. Time, resources and
the need to deliver on the specific project aims dictated the selection of
content. As I mentioned, contributions of good quality, well-written
content are more than welcome. We are all working on this on a completely
voluntary basis so do get in touch off-list with any offers of material.

All the best,
Tehmina
