It’s getting confusing..Penguin seems to have changed its mind again. From New York Times blog:

‘Readers who want to borrow Penguin e-books from libraries through their Kindles have won a reprieve. Penguin on Wednesday reversed course and said its e-books on the devices would be available at least through the end of the year, The Associated Press reported. Earlier in the week Penguin said that it would halt the availability because of security concerns. Publishers have grown increasingly nervous that the checking out of e-books remotely from libraries would hurt sales’

(see below)

And the UK division steps in line. Bloomsbury now the only major UK publisher providing new eBooks to libraries. Bizarrely Random House USA do still provide eBooks to libraries but not RH UK division.

If some sort of solution isn't found then this really is a death knell for our eBook collections.

Dear Library Partner,

Following the news of Penguin USA, as instructed by the publisher, effective 24 November, Penguin UK has suspended the availability of new eBook titles from library catalogues.  We are actively working with the publisher and are hopeful that Penguin will agree to restore access to their new titles.

This change does not affect any titles currently in your catalogue; you can add new and additional copies of the current available Penguin UK eBook titles.

At this time, no further information is available. We hope to share more details in the near future.

Sincerely,

Karen
