PLEASE REPLY DIRECTLY TO [log in to unmask] ================================================= DANTE and the Christian Imagination An International Conference at The University of St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto March 9-10, 2012 The purpose of this conference is to gather together scholars interested in considering the relationship between Dante and the Christian imagination. By Christian imagination is meant the envisioning of the self, the world, history, and the afterlife in accordance with the fundamental teachings of Christianity. The Christian imagination is nourished by Scripture, theological reflection, the liturgical tradition, works of popular devotion, and the arts inspired by its unique spiritual temperament. We are interested in exploring how Dante figures against the background of the Christian imagination of the late Middle Ages, in his own perception and in the perception of his readers throughout history. We seek proposals for 25-30 minute-papers on Dante, on the reception history of his works, and on the analogical relation between Dante and later authors and artists. Proposals can be in, but need not be limited to, the following areas: 1. Dante and the intellectual tradition that sustains the Christian imagination. 2. Dante’s contribution to the Christian imagination. 3. Dante and other poets, composers, and artists analogously grounded in the Christian imagination. 4. Dante and the Christian imagination in relation to the other major faiths. 5. Dante, the Christian imagination, and the humanities curriculum in modern universities. Proposals should be about 150 words long, should include institutional affiliation and full contact information, and should be sent to [log in to unmask] by January 15, 2012. ********************************************************************** To join the list, send the message: join italian-studies YOUR NAME to: [log in to unmask] To send a message to the list, address it to: [log in to unmask] To leave the list, send the message: leave italian-studies to: [log in to unmask] In order to report problems or to contact the list's owners, write to: [log in to unmask] For further information, visit our web site: http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/italian-studies.html
