Hi Saul, We're doing a mixed curriculum (includes IT, Numeracy and Employability), but the ESOL element is an ILP for first 18 weeks (Sept-Feb) and an accredited outcome (generally S&L) for the second 18 (Feb-July). We recently had a consultant in to look at our curriculum, and she suggested that best practice is three terms (to get round dropout after each of the two longer breaks), first 2 ILP, third 1 S&L. What are others doing? As usual, I am being driven by the need to get more ESOL achievements... Currently we work like this: 11 weeks up until Christmas, with learners taking a Speaking and Listening exam at that point. 19 weeks from January-June: learners re-enrolling take Reading and Writing in June; new learners take Speaking and Listening in June What do you do at your college/provider? Also, does the above sound like an effective way of doing things? Thanks for your input, Saul *********************************** ESOL-Research is a forum for researchers and practitioners with an interest in research into teaching and learning ESOL.
