Hi
We have self-assessed our ESOL provision as Grade 1 and this has been validated by an external consultant. We haven’t had an actual inspection on this as yet - they are due any time now, so we’ll see if Ofsted agree! – but happy to share good practice etc. if anyone would like to get in touch.

That's useful Catrin - maybe we need to look elsewhere too. It sounds as if we are similar to you - about the same learner numbers and staffing situation. Maybe we can compare notes if we discover somewhere appropriate?

I've been given the task of visiting some grade 1 ESOL departments so this info is very useful - thanks!
About Barnsley, when we looked into it we found they were a department of only two people with a relatively small programme. Please correct me if this is not the case. It is what we heard but I can't remember where from now. Anyway, we want to see somewhere with a similar programme to ours - 1000 odd students, lots of staff working in different centres...

Thanks - hadn't spotted some of those. Have emailed Barnsley to ask if we could visit but so far no response - anyone out there from Barnsley?

Me too- it’d be great to pay an ESOL grade 1 provider a visit...
So far, have found out that Islington (as you said), Newham, Barnet, Oxbridge and Redbridge are 1.
Cheers,
Caroline

Yes me too; been trawling through inspection reports and have discovered Barnsley, although that is basic skills too; also Islington? We would like to visit some grade 1 provision.

Hello everyone,
I’m interested in finding out which FE colleges have got OFSTED grade 1 in their ESOL provision.
Our faculty director seems to think that there may be one or two, if any…
Is that really the case?
Grade 1 people, can you please show up? J
Thanks!
Caroline
