Study Abroad and Graduate Employability:
Helping your students make the most of their study abroad experience
Now more than ever, in today’s economic and educational climate, the ability to link
study abroad to future employability is a crucial skill. And whilst it is easy to see on the ground how much your students gain from the study abroad experience, both personally and academically, are they properly translating these benefits so that future
employers can see them too?
This interactive workshop will take a dual approach to firstly highlight research in this area to establish the outcomes of study abroad, and then at a practical level
start to discuss the role of study abroad and international professionals in enabling students to benefit from these outcomes. Our presenters will take you through research in this fascinating area to establish what employers are looking for in today’s employment
market and help you to see exactly what relevant key skills and outcomes your students are gaining from their experiences abroad. Our workshop will then turn its focus onto your role in helping your students make the most of their experience, from the early
pre-departure stage through to enabling them to translate the outcomes of their experience to employers.

Guest Speaker
Dr Christian Yeomans, The UKHE International Unit
We are delighted to welcome as our Guest Speaker Dr Christian Yeomans from the UKHE International Unit to talk about the newly formed UKHE Student Mobility Joint Working Group.
The UK Higher Education International Unit was created in 2007 to respond to the growing demand of UK universities for timely information on, and analysis of, all aspects of HE internationalisation. One of its latest
initiatives, the Student Mobility Joint Working Group aims to review current incentives, financial support and obstacles to outward student mobility, and to make recommendations to ensure its continuation and increase in the future. Dr Yeomans will brief
BUTEX members on the purpose and aims of this working group and deliver an update of the work undertaken so far. This will also be an important opportunity for BUTEX members to feedback to the unit and ask questions.
