Dear colleagues

I am new to this forum and just beginning my second year PhD studies looking at town carnivals in Dorset and Devon.

In particular I am studying the effect of the 2012 Olympic sailing competition on the longstanding cultural performance of Weymouth Town Carnival, which seeks to occupy the streets in the period between the Olympic and the Paralympic Games in the town in July next year.

I am exploring the tensions / negotiations between this local event and the spatial /cultural controls which are being wrought upon the town during the Olympic period.

I am keen to further explore the literature surrounding the impact of the Olympics on the cultural practices of 'local' host communities, and I wonder if colleagues have any suggestions for wider reading.

Thanks
