climate change debate
Dear forumers
This is a little event I a helping to organise under the
auspices of the British Sociological Association, which may be of interest to
forumers. Please distribute to any relevant lists.
Many thanks
Book launch and discussion evening - Social
dimensions of the climate change debate.
16th January 2012, British Library, London. 5.30pm-7.30pm
With questions about the anthropogenic nature of climate change now
largely settled, policy is increasingly turning to the social sciences to
ensure successful implementation of mitigation and adaptation strategies. This
event provides a timely opportunity to hear three leading academics discuss the
contribution sociology is making to the evolving debate about the social and
institutional transformations necessitated by the demands of climate policy.
Drawing on ideas from their most recent books, Professors Mike Hulme, John
Urry and Gordon Walker will discuss with the audience the key trends and
concepts in this developing field of study.
The aim is for an intimate and informal evening, in which all
delegates can contribute to the discussions. Therefore tickets are very
limited. In addition, to help ensure a well informed discussion and productive
debate, delegates will be provided with PDFs of selected chapters from each
book prior to the event. There will also be the chance for delegates to purchase
books from the publishers on the night at a significantly discounted rate. For
