The 2011 Royal Statistical Society Presidential Address will be held in London at the Society on Wednesday 7 December at 5pm.

Professor Valerie Isham, the Society's 107th President, is taking as her topic 'The Evolving Society: United We Stand' which will set out why statistics is a subject whose time has come and that there is great strength in its diversity as long as statisticians focus on what binds them together.

The talk will note how in recent years, the breadth of the Society's activities has increased very dramatically with considerable time and energy devoted to 'outreach' to the lay public and the media, to decision makers in government and industry and to those involved in all levels in education. The Society continues to be both a professional society, developing and expanding services to members, and a learned society nurturing the discipline.

The Presidential Address will reflect on the current challenges facing the Society to consolidate the progress that has been made in recent years and to consider future strategies to support the discipline.

The Address will be followed by the Society's Winter Reception.
