Does anyone know what the status of apprentices is in relations to the Equality Act 2010 and Universities? Are they protected by the Equality Act and if so who is the responsible agent - the university or the apprentice agency? The University of Liverpool is developing its apprenticeship scheme and this is an area we are not sure of - for example whose duty is to monitor equality data (if it is the agency can they share it with the Uni), ensure reasonable adjustments are in place, are they entitled to maternity etc leave and who is responsible to manage this? Are apprentices classed as agency workers?
