I think Dan Brown’s book was pretty crappy as fiction, but I still consider it important in as much as it made a lot of people question the ruling religious paradigms on a scale almost unprecedented. Personally, I find The Illuminatus Trilogy much more interesting, ‘cause it’s all patently and proven factual information even if thinly disguised as fiction. So there.
