	Dear SHCG List

Can anyone help with this oral history query? If so please reply
direct to David at the address below.

David: Rob Perks at the British Library is always a great source of
advice on oral history technical issues. I've worked very
successfully with Edirol and Zoom solid state recorders recently and
wouldn't go back to mini disc.

	Best wishes

Hello Would you be able to pass this enquiry on to the SHCG
members. Can anyone help with this oral history problem. I am
currently undertaking oral history with a Marantz PMD660 digital tape
recorder. Although it is easy to operate I am regulalry having
difficulties with the machinery (yes, I have contacted Marantz, but
there has been no conclusion as yet). The difficulties are
basically the machine relaying the message "unformat." on the screen.
The result of this is that the system freezes and I can't do anything.
Hitherto I buy another card and have to abandon any OH recordings on
the disc. This may possibly be because the flash card has too much
memory or some fundamental problem with the machine. I have tried
cards with smaller memories and the unformatting comes up again. I
would like to know if anyone has had this problem, can suggest a
solution or can give alternative methods of recording. I used to use
mini-discs, which although more fiddly, proved to be more reliable
for working and inputting onto computer. I don't know how much OH
recording is going on at the moment, but it has been difficult
locating people with any knowledge of the technical aspects of this
so far. Kindest regards David David Hardill Community Heritage
