Hi. Jim from Michigan here.
Regarding the axial map inside buildings issue. Has there been any
work on a standard format for room polygons, room connectors and all
the building data needed to support the studies of motion and shape?

For years I have been using DXF elements like closed PLINES for space
polygons. The building database becomes very difficult to create if
spaces must be non-intersecting closed polygons. I made the mistake
of convincing my Syntax2D friends to follow this requirement.

When making the polygons (say, in AutoCAD) mistakes can be made. The
Syntax2D group took one on the chin for the polygon requirement. I
forgot to leave them with the code to semi-automatically generate
spaces from linear (LINE, ARC, SPLINE, and open PLINE) elements. It
was time to retire and I never made my case for a fix for Syntax2D's
biggest problem.

Is anyone working on this? Is there a building database group within
this group that is concerned with file formats or similar issues?
Buildings are not urban areas or cities. The measurements and
simulations are different. I think axial analysis is not appropriate
for building analysis. But what do I know! I have retired and have
become a virtuoso tenor ukulele player. Every so often I get the urge
to ask a few questions.

I have written a paper about my approach using DXF elements to export/
import building data. I found it interesting to write (both code and
paper).

Hello to John and Jean and all you other SSers.
