The department of epidemiology at the University of Michigan is seeking to hire a network scientist who focuses on epidemiology as one of five tenure-track faculty positions available in a cluster focusing on biological networks at multiple levels of organization, from molecules and genes to individuals in social systems to entire ecosystems or health systems. Positions are likely to be at the assistant professor level, although exceptional candidates at higher ranks will be considered. We are searching for individuals with interdisciplinary interests who develop and/or use theoretical, computational, statistical, experimental, or observational approaches to understand how the structure, evolution, and dynamics of networks relate to their function, robustness, and control. The research focus of applicants may be in any area relevant to epidemiology including social epidemiology, infectious disease epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, complex chronic diseases, environmental epidemiology, microbial ecology epidemiology, or health systems epidemiology. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate an ability to engage and collaborate with epidemiologists who previously have not analyzed dynamic systems or networks. Other units participating in this cluster hire are: 1) Ecology and Evolutionary Biology; 2) Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology; 3) Biophysics; and 4) the Center for Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics. The position carries the possibility of an affiliation with the Center for the Study of Complex Systems (CSCS). Applications are not through the department of Epidemiology but rather through a joint coordinating committee at www.lsa.umich.edu/eeb/apply/networksearch. Applicants should arrange to have three letters of recommendation submitted through the same website. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. The University is supportive of the needs of dual career couples. The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Rick Riolo [log in to unmask] Center for the Study of Complex Systems (CSCS) 321a West Hall University of Michigan Ann Arbor MI 48109-1107 Phone: 734 763 3323 Fax: 734 763 9267 http://cscs.umich.edu/~rlr
