Speaker Biogs

A Country in Crisis: A Lack of Formal Documentation and Transparency in
Iceland. Prof Johanna Gunnlaugsdottir, University of Iceland.

Iceland saw the collapse of its major banks in late 2008. The Icelandic
parliament appointed a Special Investigating Commission in 2008 to
investigate the events leading to their collapse and its causes. It
delivered its truth finding report on April 12, 2010. In this presentation
some of the Commission's findings on records creation, access to information
and registration in the private and public sectors are presented. The report
points out many weaknesses. Frequent lack of systematic and formal
documentation is striking as is the lack of formality in decisions and
executions in accordance with laws and regulations. The Commission proposes
to correct the situation with a systematic information and records
management programme proclaiming that the interests of the State cannot be
safeguarded without it.

Johanna Gunnlaugsdottir is a Professor at the University of Iceland where
she teaches and conducts research in information and records management,
total quality management and knowledge management. In 1985 she founded a
consulting company in information and records management, Gangskor sf. and
has worked for over 100 organizations in Iceland. She has also held seminars
and given lectures on RIM, TQM and KM for various institutions, companies
and associations, both in Iceland and at international conferences. Johanna
has been a member of the IRMS (UK) and ARMA International since 1987 and was
one of the founders of the Icelandic Records Management Association (IRMA)
in 1988. She was also one of the founders of the Icelandic Knowledge
Management Association (IKMA) and is on the Editorial Advisory Board of the
Records Management Journal (Emerald).

'Records Management - a sound investment in troubled times', Ms Vicki
Wilkinson, Royal Bank of Scotland
Vicki Wilkinson - Manager of the Group Records Management Team at The Royal
Bank of Scotland Group. Professional Records Manager for almost 25 years,
she has worked in a variety of businesses from charity and academia to the
financial services. She is an energetic, enthusiastic, optimistic and
pragmatic practitioner.

Apologies for our scheduling this meeting so close to the Public Sector
group Meeting but Prof Gunnlaugsdottir is only in the country for short
period and so we were limited in terms of available dates.

Thanks
