That’s great news Natalie!

Hi Psci-Commers,

This is a tale of two SciFest cities as the dates of Manchester Science Festival are close to those of London Science Festival – clearly you should try to get to both (I’m emailing as an ex-Manchester dweller / Manchester-obsessive ;).

But, if you can’t and you are nearer to London, the talented award-winning Matt Parker is performing twice at London Science Festival:

1 - FESTIVAL OF THE SPOKEN NERD: SHAKESPEARE, SCIENCE & THE SENSES | 19 October 2011 – Shakespeare’s Globe

– featuring Helen Arney, Steve Mould and Matt Parker – with special guests Prof Bruce Hood (this year’s Royal Institution Christmas Lecturer) and Piff the Magic Dragon (star of Edinburgh Fringe)

...

2 - YOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED | 25 October 2011 – Imperial College Union

- this show is on tour – so, in addition to the Manchester Science Festival event Natalie mentions below, it will hit London as an LSF11 event and Battle of Ideas ‘satellite event’ on 25 October (two weeks from today)

– starring Timandra Harkness and Matt Parker

Best,

Wynn

Subject: [PSCI-COM] Stand-up mathematician, Matt Parker wins 2011 Josh Award

Stand-up mathematician, Matt Parker has won this year’s Joshua Phillips Award for Innovation in Science Engagement (Josh Award). Well known for his comedic maths routines and maths shows, Matt’s media work and innovative practices in promoting maths wowed the judging panel.

The Josh Award recognises up-and-coming talent in the science communication field, and innovative approaches to engage the public with science. The Award includes a cash prize of £1000, a trophy and the role of Science Communicator in residence for the Manchester Science Festival 2012.

Matt will be presented with the Award on Sunday 23 October at the Your Days Are Numbered: the maths of death event he is performing at during Manchester Science Festival (22 - 30 October 2011).

For tickets to Your Days Are Numbered: the maths of death, Sunday 23 October at MOSI and to see Matt presented with the Award, please visit the Manchester Science Festival website: http://www.manchestersciencefestival.com/whatson/the-maths-of-death

The panel were really impressed with the high standard of nominations for this year's Award. The cross section of science communicators that were represented demonstrated the excellent science engagement work being carried out across the UK.

Thank you for everyone’s support and promotion of the Josh Award.
