    [OCC-HEALTH] Pneumoccocal Vaccine for welders-employer to arrange

I just spotted this update (17/10/11) in the DOH Green Book on immunisations

Chapter 25 Pneumococcal p306 following on from Contraindications

Individuals at Occupational Risk
There is a strong association between  welding and  the develoment of pneumococcal disease, paticularly lobar pneumonia (Palmer et al 2003,Industrial Injuries Advisory Committee 2010)
Therefore welders who have not received the pneumoccoccal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV3) previously should be offered a single dose of 0.5 ml PPV3.
Employers should ensure that provision is in place for workers to receive PPV3.
