Personally I still want to be acknowledged as first and foremost a nurse.  However having chosen my pathway with an implicit aim of admission to Part 3 of the Register, I do want my additional skills and qualification recognised by a professional body.  Don't really care who it is - but it does deserve some recognition above basic nurse training? I tend to favour the nurse practitioner route with the emphasis on public health.  However OH,  although narrow in some ways encompasses so many different strands..................... there are many who could be extremely competent in OH without being nurses?  Or is this too radical?

Hi Sarah

Thanks for this –Ots and Physios needing registration at initial level is with the HPC – but I would not see OHNs going down that route. I am thinking about registration of OH practitioners with an entirely different body.

Hi Anne

Whilst no one wants to have something taken away from them (i.e. OH nurses no longer being on part 3 of the register), I don't think it matter too much.  That said, it would be good to think that a professional body holds a lists of recognised educational bodies that provide appropriate OHN training.  It would be a shame to think that Health Visitors and School Nurses alone would be associated with SCPHN because surely that would cover public health nursing at a predominantly paediatric level, so it may as well be Specialist Paediatric Community and Public Health Nursing?  What happens to the adult component?

I *think* I'm right in saying that Occupational Therapists and Physio's now have to be registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC), although I may be wrong.  Then again, if OH moved into the HPC arena, that would mean yet more professional fees for OH nurses.
