Call for Chapter Contributions

Between instrumentality and insignificance -

Employee Participation in the Context of Organizations in Central and Eastern Europe

Dear Colleagues

We plan to edit a volume that collects papers of various origins dealing with employee participation in organizations. A special, although not exclusive, focus lies on Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) which also includes countries such as Germany or Austria. Moreover, we stress the term organization to signal openness to contributions that address organizations from all areas of social life. In methodological terms, we welcome papers based on qualitative case study research as well as on quantitative survey research.

Issues that might be addressed include – but are not limited to – the following:

• General questions regarding employee participation in CEE (e.g., models of worker participation and industrial democracy, cultures of participation, participative leadership etc.)
• Employee participation as a management instrument in CEE (e.g., role of employee participation in the context of HRM policies, management attitudes towards employee participation, employee share ownership etc.)

• The relationship between employee participation and innovation in CEE (e.g., the potential of employee participation to enhance workers’ creativity and innovativeness, employee participation as an innovation itself, barriers to the introduction of employee participation etc.)

• Employee participation and the Global Economic and Financial Crisis (e.g., impacts of the global financial crisis on employee participation, potential of employee participation to improve the crisis resilience of organizations, etc.)

Interested contributors are welcome to submit their draft chapters (in English or German) before November, 30, 2011 to Olaf Kranz ([log in to unmask]) or Thomas Steger ([log in to unmask]). Contributors will be notified about acceptance before the end of 2011. The edited volume is scheduled to be issued in April 2012.
