People using the internet can be caught out by copyright and it can be a struggle to stay within the law and avoid expensive lawsuits.

Delegates to this course will learn:

 *   How copyright protects different types of electronic content, in particular how it applies to web2.0 applications
 *   How to get the required permissions for use of other peoples’ web content
 *   Risks involved in using third party content on web 2.0 applications, and how to minimise those risks

The course will cover:

 *   content sharing websites
 *   podcasts
 *   webcasts and streaming
 *   RSS feeds
 *   scraping
 *   file sharing
 *   mixing
 *   mashups
 *   hyperlinking/ deep linking

 Web2.0 and Libraries: the Future

Friday 25th November

You don’t know what you don’t know! Librarians and Learning Resource Centre Managers need to stay at the forefront of web2.0 technology and ensure their services are enhanced by the range of opportunities that become available – both in terms of marketing and providing digital services. This course will look at what is new and attempt to peer into the future and anticipate how libraries need to change to adapt to the new environment Delegates will gain:

 *
An awareness of the latest developments in web2.0 and web3.0 and how the impact on the services offered by the library and information services – both school and public
 *
an understanding of the implications of these developments in terms of managing and facilitating access to information
 *
The implications of developments in terms of skills users need and therefore what the librarian/ LRC Manager needs to teach
 *
Delegates will be able to experiment with different pieces of software and share their experiences and ideas.
