On 10th November ALISS (Association of Librarians and Information Professionals in the Social Sciences) will be holding its first showcase event. Its aim is to offer information professionals the chance to get information, compare and explore, major subscription and free resources that can underpin and aid research. The first event will cover all aspects of public health in the developing world. It is of interest to those supporting medical, public health and development studies researchers/ students. Coverage will include bibliographic resources, official publications (from international organizations) and statistical data. It will include presentations and practical tips from experienced British Library curators, plus an opportunity to try out some of the recommended resources with hands-on practice.
Speakers will include:
· Ian Walker who will cover major subscription databases including OVID (Medline, GLobal health) Medline and Informit (Asia Pacific research http://www.informit.com.au/ )
* Jerry Jenkins who will offer an introduction to the range of statistical resources offered by major international organisations including OCED, WHO and World Bank
* Nicholas Martland who will demonstrate major resources for tracing the wealth of public health resources which are still available in print only!

1.45-2.15 Ian Walker: An introduction to major public health on-line databases (including Medline, Informit)
2.15-2.45 Jerry Jenkins: Finding public health statistics using resources produced by major international organisations including the WHO, World Bank and OECD
2.45-3.15 Nicholas Martland: Not everything is 'e': accessing print resources
3.15-4.00 tea
4.00-4.15 Using the British library for public health research
4.15-5.00 Hands on session. An opportunity to explore the resources introduced in the earlier sessions.
