The two events can be booked separately or you can attend both sessions for a reduced price. 9.30am - 12.30pm Reflective practice led by Rosemary McGuinness & Paula Nottingham Reflective practice is a valuable way of understanding how professionals can evaluate what they do in order to improve their performance in the workplace. From this session, delegates will develop and refine their critical skills of reflection using the classic theories from reflective practice, e.g.. Schön, Kolb, Engeström, with elements taken from social learning. Workshop leaders Rosemary McGuinness qualified as a Librarian in 1984 and worked in a variety of Information Management roles in organisations such as the British Council, Southwark Consortium, International Alert and the NHS. She moved into a lecturing role in Information Management at the University of North London, which after a merger became London Metropolitan University. She started working with other professional groups such as the Police and Health & Safety Officers in a work based context at Queen's University Belfast and is currently the Programme Leader of the MA Professional Practice (Arts) in Middlesex University. Her interest lies in developing learning in workplaces. Paula Nottingham is the Programme Leader of the Bachelor of Professional Practice (Arts) at Middlesex University. Paula's background includes a BFA and MFA (Fine Arts), an Applied Professional Studies degree in Lifelong Learning and is completing a PhD at Birkbeck, University of London concentrating on Work Based Learning in Higher Education. Previously Paula has worked as a lecturer, a European Social Fund project coordinator, and a learning consultant working with adults in work-related training delivered as non-credit bearing provision in Higher Education. Other areas of interest include employer engagement and knowledge exchange, staff development, and using technology to enhance e-learning. 1.30pm - 4.30pm Copyright led by Kate Vasili (University Copyright Officer at Middlesex University) Delegates will be briefed on current UK Copyright Law and recent developments in the UK and EU (including proposed changes in legislation following recent key cases, EU legislation, the Digital Economy Act and the Hargreaves Review) and the implications for those who use or advise other users e.g. colleagues and students, on using information resources in their work. The session will also include recent developments in licensing and subscription agreements, and the problems encountered at Middlesex as we have expanded our services internationally. Delegates will understand how recent and proposed changes in UK copyright law and licensing will affect their work and enable them to use resources and advise colleagues and other users confidently. Tea and coffee will be provided but to keep the price low there will be no lunch. Those staying for the full day can take advantage of the numerous food outlets around Ridgmount Street or bring their own food to eat in the Ewart Room.
