Dear Colleagues,

The SW Federation of Museums & Art Galleries has just started a resource
bank to extend the shelf life and distribution of materials and information
from the SW Museums Skills Programme on its website,
http://www.swfed.org.uk/resources/previous-training-resources.

One of the sessions was about social media, so we'd be happy to put a copy
of the collated responses to Rosie's query on the site. We are limiting
ourselves to the topics covered by the training workshops at the moment
because managing anything more extensive is too great a task for a volunteer
run organisation. Issues about copyright, currency and quality of
information just escalate.

On a wider scale it leads to the debate about where are all the materials
created through the Renaissance programme going to be archived. A tremendous
amount of work was lost when the AMC's and regional MLA's closed down. I
know this subject has come up before and many are taking action.
Unfortunately not all.

Best wishes,

Vicky Dawson

Vice Chair of SW Federation of Museums & Art Galleries

Subject: Sharing Information

Dear all,

Many people on the GEM list very generously offer to share information they
have gathered with anyone who asks for it, such as Rosie with Twitter tips.

At the moment I don't need tips on Twitter but I might in a couple of years
time. So can I make a suggestion to GEM? What about getting a copy of these
collated responses from the original requester as a Word or PDF document and
then put them on the GEM website somewhere so that they can be downloaded as
and when needed by others?

What do people think?

All the best,

Colin Hynson

Subject: Twitter advice

Hello all

Does anyone have a tips sheet for museums/heritage sites on how to use
twitter? My colleague has set up a Twitter account for Valentines Mansion,
and although I am a massive nerd and twitterer, and have talked her through
it I don't have time to write her up a how-to guide. (Only 6.5 days of my
contract left. Argh!). If anyone has one to hand we'd be very grateful if
you could email us a copy.

Many thanks

Rosie
