Ask David Killingray and Cliff Pereira for info - both have written about
WWI. The Ministry of Defence's We were there has info, but much of it is
inaccurate. There is also The Empire Needs Men, published many years ago, I
think by the Imperial War Museum - quite useful. Ask for the MoD and the IWM
for info also. I shall look in my articles on the merchant seamen to see
what I can find.

Thanks for all the very interesting responses - are there any specific
sources / documents that people think should be made available to students?
Or any that you think might be tucked away in national archives across
europe?

Pupils/students also need to know about the contributions of 'Black'
Britons, whether of African or Asian descent/origin, and whether in the
military (if any were ever recruited) and in Home Services. And then about
those in the merchant marine.
