New Preprint: “Practical Limits to the Scope of Digital Preservation” by Mike Kastellec « INFOdocket This paper examines factors that limit the ability of institutions to digitally preserve the cultural heritage of the modern era. The author takes a wide-ranging approach to shed light on limitations to the scope of digital preservation. The author finds that technological limitations to digital preservation have been addressed but still exist, and that non-technical aspects— access, selection, law, and finances— move into the foreground as technological limitations recede. The author proposes a nested model of constraints to the scope of digital preservation and concludes that costs are digital preservation’s most pervasive limitation. http://bit.ly/nU30fg Source: http://infodocket.com/2011/10/23/new-preprint-practical-limits-to-the-scope-of-digital-preservation-by-mike-kastellec/ See if people are clicking on this link: http://bit.ly/nU30fg+ Try the bitly.com sidebar to see who is talking about a page on the web: http://bitly.com/pages/sidebar -- Peter Kurilecz CRM CA [log in to unmask] Richmond, Va http://twitter.com/RAINbyte http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/RAINbyte/ http://paper.li/RAINbyte/rainbyte Information not relevant for my reply has been deleted to reduce the electronic footprint and to save the sanity of digest subscribers Contact the list owner for assistance at [log in to unmask] For information about joining, leaving and suspending mail (eg during a holiday) see the list website at https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?A0=archives-nra
