Smile Please: Photographs for the Future

Day School on Utilising Photographs in Collections

Are you interested in photograph collections or want to find some innovative ways to utilise your organisation's images? The North West Branch of the CILIP Local Studies Group is holding a day school on Wednesday 7th December 2011 at Manchester University with talks from individuals from a variety of professions including teaching, archiving and library, with examples of best practice. You will learn about Manchester's Flickr photographic project and how photographs have been dated and used for family history at the Harris Museum, Preston. You will also see how photographs can be used in the classroom, stimulating critical thinking and helping children to gain a more visual understanding of history.

The day will take place at the Sackville St Building, Manchester, 9.30am-4pm and costs £20. For further information, please call Julie Devonald on 0161 275 2920.
