The autumn issue of Archive Sector Update, our newsletter for all those interested in developments in the archive sector, is now available to download from our website.

Our focus for this issue is collections discovery and the role of tools (such as the National Register of Archives) in bringing together and making available up-to-date information about the wealth of archive holdings from across the country – something it has been doing for over 65 years. To ensure that these discovery tools remain relevant to the needs of our stakeholders, we are undertaking a review to improve the online accessibility of collections – a key commitment under 'Archives for the 21st Century in action'. Details of how you can be involved in this review will be published next week.

This week also marked the start of our new sector leadership responsibilities. This is a new beginning for both The National Archives and the archive sector where, working together, we will champion archives by demonstrating the value they offer society, representing the sector's views at government level and influencing policy formulation.  Our leadership responsibilities will be phased over the next six months, to allow us to engage with other archives on how we intend to fulfill our new remit.  We look forward to continuing working with you.
