Subject: Invite *lunchtime lecture: Time for a fresh approach to equality, diversity and inclusion? 2nd Nov 1pm

Dear all,

Please find below information about a lunchtime lecture UCL's Race Equality Group has organised. Some of you may have heard Mike Noon deliver this lecture at Birkbeck. Apparently it was excellent. If you missed it, you are most welcome to attend this event next week.

Best wishes,

Fiona

Lunchtime Lecture: Reconsidering positive discrimination: time for a fresh approach to equality, diversity and inclusion?

Speaker: Mike Noon, Professor of Human Resource Management, Centre for Research in Equality and Diversity, Queen Mary University

Details: Weds 2nd November, 1-2pm, Gavin De Beer Lecture Theatre, Anatomy Building, UCL

In this presentation Mike Noon will challenge you to reconsider your attitudes to positive discrimination. He will show how each of the main criticisms of positive discrimination can be over-turned and suggest that it is now time to think seriously about using more progressive approaches to equality and diversity. The seminar is aimed at any member of staff who has an interest in furthering equality of opportunity. Towards the end of the seminar there will be a chance to ask questions, raise points and, of course, disagree.

Mike Noon is Professor of Human Resource Management and a member of the Centre for Research in Equality and Diversity, School of Business and Management, Queen Mary University of London. His main research and publications focus on the policies, processes and practices that lead to inequality, discrimination and injustice in contemporary organisations, and in particular the impact on ethnic minorities.
