I thought some of you might be interested in this development here at the University of Stirling. As you may know, Gerard Hastings and his colleagues in the Institute of Social Marketing are part of the Scottish Addiction Studies network. They have been doing work over the years into the reasons why people (particularly young people) start smoking. Now, the tobacco giant Philip Morris is trying to use Freedom of Information laws to compel them to give it all the documentation concerning their confidential research with children and their smoking habits:

The Institute is refusing to comply and has set up a Facebook page to encourage people to register their outrage and disgust at this action.
Please express your views on whether or not they should comply by visiting their Facebook page (search for 'Stirling University Freedom of Information Request') and answering the survey. It would also be helpful to 'like' the page if you feel so inclined.
Please ask others to do likewise.
