Post-doctoral Research Psychologist

Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London

Section of Neuropsychiatry, Department of Psychological Medicine

We would like to invite applications for the post of Post-doctoral Research Psychologist.  This is a full-time, fixed-term (25 months) post funded by the Guy's and St Thomas's Charity investigating the cognitive and neuropsychiatric effects of ageing in patients with HIV and HIV-negative age-matched control volunteers.

The study aims to validate a putative biomarker of cognitive decline in HIV, previously identified by the research team.  The project will involve following up 20 HIV patients aged between 25 and 44, a further 20 HIV patients aged between 54 and 74 from the Department of Genito-Urinary Medicine at St Thomas's Hospital, and 40 age-matched HIV-negative volunteers. It also involves the recruitment of a cross-sectional cohort of 80 new HIV patients.  The Chief Investigator is Professor Michael Kopelman.

The post-holder will be responsible for following up participants from the original study, identifying suitable new participants with the help of the HIV Consultants, seeking participants' consent to participate, and carrying out clinical neuropsychiatric and neuropsychological assessments of cognitive function, as well as organising and co-ordinating medical and neuroimaging (structural MRI, DTI, and CASL) investigations.  Medical, neuropsychiatric, and neuropsychological assessments will be conducted at St. Thomas' Hospital, where the post-holder will be based, and neuroimaging will be conducted at the Institute of Psychiatry.  The post-holder will also be responsible for entry and analysis of the clinical and neuropsychological data, the analysis of the neuroimaging data, and for writing up the findings for publication.

Starting salary is £33,193 per annum (inclusive of London Allowance).
