The Royal Institution (Ri) is an independent charity dedicated to increasing knowledge of, excitement for and involvement in science and technology for current and future generations through its public and young peoples' programmes, history of science activities and scientific research.

We currently have two exciting opportunities to get involved with our work and would hope that those on this list will be interested! Full details are available on our website: www.rigb.org/jobs

1. Editorial & Digital Intern: Ri Online Salary: Paid internship at circa £1,250 per month Vacancy Type: Temporary (3 months) / Full Time Closing date 20 Sept

The Royal Institution is seeking a bright and creative science graduate to support the development and launch of a new online project.

As a member of the Ri Online team you will help us to produce editorial content for online publication as well as researching a range of scientific topics and contributing ideas for the creation of new video content. The successful candidate should be familiar with a full range of digital communications, have experience of publishing content online and a solid knowledge and understanding of science-related subjects. The ability to write succinct copy to a high standard is essential alongside the capacity to manage multiple tasks and a busy workload.

The role is a paid internship for three months from October 2011. Alongside a broad range of online communication skills, the internship offers the opportunity to develop new skills in digital production. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved with the launch of an innovative online project and to work in a dynamic and exciting organisation.

2. Schools Account Coordinator Salary: circa £25k pro rata per annum (funding dependent) Vacancy Type: 3 year fixed term contract, Part Time (3 days per week) Closing date 26 Sept

As part of our Young People Programme (YPP), we have recently won funding to assist in fostering and growing participation with schools. The role has been funded for 3 days per week for a 3 year contract, and will deal in particular with setting up systems to track relationships with existing school contacts, as well as identifying and building new relationships with schools in selected boroughs in London. The role will include increasing the number of schools from areas with high levels of deprivation that are involved with the programme, as well as helping to tailor the programmes provided to better meet the needs of schools.

The ideal applicant will be familiar with the formal education system and teacher networks, with the interpersonal abilities to help the Ri to build on existing relationships with these areas. You will also have experience in setting up and maintaining information management or CRM systems and some knowledge of research techniques and evaluation frameworks such as the Museums Libraries and Archives (MLA) Generic Learning Outcomes (GLO).
