I would not allow this person back to work until the infection had cleared. we as nurses know that a fungal infection will only breed if it is in a moist environment - blue plasters I am sure will encourage moisture. Also consider if the cream he is using has any nut derivatives in it (all depends if you follow the nut free policy) ? His GP has said he can return to work as long as he keeps it dry and wears a rubber glove. The problem is he works as a butcher in a factory and needs to wash his hands several times a day and his hands are always wet despite wearing gloves. i am not sure if the blue plasters will make the nail bed swet and hinder the recovery.
