Hello everyone

I have undertaken quite a few home visits over the years and never encountered such problems. It's important to do risk assessments about working alone. More recently have done telephone assessments instead and this is also very effective and saves travel time and expenses

Lynda

Subject: Re: [OCC-HEALTH] Domiciliary vists

Hi

I do these but rarely and on a case by case basis.  It is always preferable if the consultation can be done on site premises but this is not always possible.  I take the point from another reply that it is not cost effective, however in independent practice, I get paid for what I do and the rate for a home visit is different from a telephone consultation or a day on site where I might see any number of employees.

My rationale is also that I get paid by clients to provide good OH advice that helps them make managerial decisions – often about difficult situations where part of the problem is the employer – hence employees refusal to attend site.  It’s always a judgement call but if I consider it appropriate to the case, I will make the visit.

Thanks

Lindsey

Could I ask for your views on these, what benefit to the employee or employer do you feel these have or don't have. If an employee is medically incapable of attending an appointment at the OH department, surely the Specialists report confirming the diagnosis or a telephone assessment would suffice.

Look forward to hearing opinions on this
