Long Term Residency - Applications invited
deadline: 5pm Monday 3 October

Members and new members are invited to submit proposals for Long-term residency of The Work Room independent dance studio at Tramway in Glasgow.
There is the opportunity to discuss this opportunity and make an application or introduce the Creative Coordinator to your work at Tramway on the afternoons of Monday 26 Sep or Friday 30 Sept. To book a time email [log in to unmask]

WHAT IS IT?

The Residency Project has two strands:
• Long-Term Creative Residencies: Up to 8 weeks dedicated studio provision and support - Applications open to only to mid-career professional artists with a proven track record
• New Visions Residencies: Up to 4 weeks dedicated studio provision and support - Applications open to emerging artists who have completed their training and professional artists at any stage in their career

HOW DO I APPLY?

Applications are invited twice annually. In this round you are welcome to apply for residencies which will take place between January 2012 and July 2013. This is to enable those of you with longer term plans to align your residencies with upcoming commissions or other future plans.
This is to ensure that we are meeting the needs of artists by making sure we safeguard some of our programming time for projects and ideas which will come to you later down the line, or have a shorter lead-in time.
First Opportunity – by deadline of 5pm, 3 October 2011: Applications are selected according to the priority and number of criteria your proposal fulfils.
Second Opportunity – rolling selection: Once artists have been selected from the applications round, any remaining space after this is open to be applied for on a rolling basis. So, if the creative juices hit you mid season, you can apply at any time.
Third Opportunity – daily calendar: Often artists in residence may have the odd day or run of days in which they do not intend to work in the studio. This is at the discretion of the artist in residence, once an artist has been granted residency the residency time and space is theirs to use in whatever capacity they need. This can mean that it may be inappropriate to offer up any ‘down time’ to other members, but, wherever possible and whenever agreed by the resident artist any remaining slots (e.g. lunchtimes, weekends, afternoons) will be posted on The Work Room website and can be booked on a strictly first come first served basis, by inserting your name and contact telephone number in the slot.
Application Process Proposals may be submitted by email or by post. You should enclose artists CVs/biogs as attachments, but there is no need to write more than one page of A4. You may (or may not) wish to think about the following questions:
1) How long and when do you require the space?
2) How flexible can you be about your dates of your residency? (Best case time frame/worst case time frame)
3) What do you plan to do? 4) How does this project affect your own artistic development ?
5) What is the outcome of the residency likely to be, including plans to present and tour material?
Selection Process and Criteria It is the aim of The Work Room to create a selection process which places power into the hands of the artists to decide what they think is crucial to good work. The process is designed to allows a fairness of access to our support but guard against nepotism.
• Artists define what they believe makes an ‘excellent’ proposal
• Applications are given a score of priority based purely on the Artists’ criteria for excellence • The scoring and selection process is carried out by the Creative Coordinator
• The final recommendations for selection are checked and approved by the Artists’ Panel
