‘Career Girls on the Small Screen’

Phoenix Arts Centre, Leicester, Saturday October 8th 2pm

Way before America’s Mad Men, British television has screened drama and comedy about women in the workplace. This event offers a mixture of short talks and screenings about British television’s rich history of working women emerging from the AHRC project 'A History of Television for Women in Britain, 1947-89’ by the University of Warwick and De Montfort University. The afternoon will include a screened conversation with Compact and Crossroads creator Hazel Adair recorded specially for the event, screenings of Compact  (1962), The Rag Trade (1961) and The Liver Birds (1969) with guest speakers (tbc), discussion and a drinks reception.  All welcome.

Anyone wanting to know more about the project can visit our website www.dmu.ac.uk/tvforwomen or our facebook page 'Women's Television' or email [log in to unmask] or Helen Wood [log in to unmask] or Rachel Moseley [log in to unmask]
