Subject: DATUM for Health RDM training materials for Postgraduate Research Students available

The materials from this JISC-funded training programme for postgraduate research students in the health discipline are now available on the project website (www.northumbria.ac.uk/datum<http://www.northumbria.ac.uk/datum>).

Developed by Northumbria University and delivered in collaboration with the DCC and DPC the materials can be used by others in the health discipline and easily adapted for use in other subject disciplines. They help researchers to develop the knowledge and skills to manage their research data, create their own research data management plan and, where applicable, to place their data into the public domain for reuse by others. The programme provides expertise essential for the successful completion of their PhD and future research career.

Focused on the management of qualitative research data, which in the health field raises particular issues of research methodology, data analysis and ethics, the programme comprises four sessions covering every stage in the data lifecycle, from creation to final storage or destruction. Sessions build on each other but can also stand alone. Materials include: PowerPoint presentations with tutor notes, activities/exercises with model answers, a tailored version of the DCC’s DMP for research students, a customised Google search engine for Research Data Management, presentations from the Data4Life event with the DPC and links to other published resources.

The materials will also be available to download from JORUM.
