Specialist Group in Tectonics and Structural Geology SGTSG –Geological Society of Australia

The 2012 biennial SGTSG conference will be held in beautiful, Waratah Bay, Victoria, from the 29th January – 3rd February, 2012. The conference titled, “Cause and effects of deformation in the lithosphere” promises to provide an opportunity for researchers across the globe to discuss and present their research relating to the applications of Tectonics and Structural Geology.  International keynote presenters will cover a wide range of controversial topics related to structural geology and tectonics.

Proceedings will begin with a pre-conference workshop (Friday 27th and Saturday 28th January 2012) at the School of Geosciences, Monash University. The workshop is intended to introduce to the SGTSG community a range of numerical modelling packages applicable to tectonics and structural geology.  The mid-conference excursion to Cape Liptrap (Wednesday 1 Feb) will also provide opportunity for debate and discussion of the spectacular coastal exposure of a folded and faulted turbidite sequence.  Underlying this complex exposure is the basement to the Lachlan Orogen.  At the conclusion of the proceedings is an optional five day post-conference fieldtrip (3rd-8th February) which will focus on deformation zones in the eastern Lachlan Orogen.

In addition there will be many social functions including a beach cocktail party ice-breaker, drinks at a local winery after the mid-conference field trip and a conference dinner, which will provide a relaxed atmosphere to discuss, debate and network.

Abstract submission deadline: Friday 28th October 2011.
